Identify the signs and symptoms of common childhood illness.

Children are exposed to illness because of their weak and underdeveloped immunity system and poor sense of awareness about habits like washing of hands and avoiding the touching of dirty surfaces. Therefore, it becomes very important for parents to lay more focus on their child’s habits and they must ensure that they are able to look and identify the early symptoms of childhood illness. There are different sorts of illness that the children might be exposed to understanding their signs and symptoms is important to get them treated. Some of these common childhood illnesses include:


·Common Cold: - Most children catch a common cold and seasonal cough and it can be treated with the help of home remedies. If your child is recovering a day or two then it doesn’t account as something to worry about but if the cough persists then you must consult a doctor. Look for symptoms like: - high temperature, consistent cough, difficulty in breathing, overtly tiredness etc.

·Ear Infections: - This is also an illness which is common in children and can begin by itching in ears. Ear infections are also sometimes followed by cold and temperature. Parents should look for signs where their child is rubbing, pulling and feels constant itching. These infections in most cases go away with time with in some worse cases a doctor must be consulted.

·Sore Throat: - Sore throat may be caused by viral infections. Parents should look for signs of dryness of throat or soreness for about 2-3 days. If this problem persists for more number days and your child starts faces difficulty in breathing or has a swollen neck then it is better to consult a doctor.

·Food Allergies: - when a child is introduced to solid food for the first time then there might be a possibility that they might have an allergic reaction and parents should look for such signs. Commonly identified food items that might cause an allergic reaction are milk, eggs, wheat, seeds, nuts, fish and shellfish. Sometimes children may also be allergic to certain food additives and therefore parents should avoid serving them such items. The symptoms parents should look for include vomiting, diarrhea, cough, shortness of breath, rashes on skin, swelling, blocked nose.

·Croup: - Croup is another disease which is very common in children who are below the age of 5. This childhood illness is related to the cold and virus. It is caused by the same virus which is responsible for cold in children and it causes a swelling in the windpipe. This swelling can cause blockage and thereby difficulty in breathing. Parents should look for signs like running nose, difficulty in breathing, sore throat, irritability. If these symptoms worsen with time then parents should definitely seek for medical help.

·Vomiting and Diarrhea: - These two-childhood illnesses are experienced generally by children below the age of 3-4. Symptoms for Diarrhea can be passing of smelly, runny and frequent stool. Children may also experience pain and stomach cramps and this is generally caused due to viruses, a stomach bug, food poisoning or eating food that child is allergic too. Due to vomiting and diarrhea, children may suffer from dehydration since all almost all of the water is drained. Symptoms that parents should look for dehydration include being lazy, having sunken eyes, dark yellow urine, dryness in mouth.

Therefore, parents should identify the signs and signals for the above childhood illnesses and must consult a doctor if need be.
